Presented by the Center for Food Safety, author Anna Lappé discusses her new book Diet for a Hot Planet with chef Mary Sue Milliken (who was, ironically, host of the Food Network show Too Hot Tamales). The book’s title references Diet for a Small Planet, the seminal 1971 work by Frances Moore Lappé (Anna’s mother) that inspired a generation of vegetarians. (It’s been on my mom’s shelf as long as I can remember, right next to those other ’70s classics, The Moosewood Cookbook and The Vegetarian Epicure.) The event is being in held in Santa Monica in honor of it being the first city to sign the Center’s Cool Foods Pledge, committing to reducing its carbon “foodprint.”
