L.A.’s Food Forward is a successful example of “urban gleaning”: the organization fights hunger by harvesting (with permission!) SoCal’s copious underutilized fruit trees and vegetable gardens and passing the bounty on to local food pantries. Volunteers pick excess fruits and veggies from local growers and property owners—366,353 pounds to date—and provide over 35,000 people per month with fresh, healthy, locally grown food.

This fundraiser at Clementine Bakery will feature a grilled cheese tasting (April is, of course, Grilled Cheese Month), and fresh-picked fruit spritzers.

    When: Friday, April 1, 2011
    7:30 to 9:30 PM

    Where: Clementine Bakery
    1751 Ensley Ave., Los Angeles

Tickets are $45 and include food, drinks and a silent auction.
